Filter bag on sump

I have a filter bag on the feed to the sump. I clean it every once-in-a-while. I was thinking it might be holding some "good stuff" in to too. Should I be checking it to see if there are any things living in there? I doubt I will see any pods or micro things but I don't want to throw out good stuff.

I have also had my tank going for about 4 months now and I am still not getting any scum in my skimmer (G3). It runs 24hrs/day. 110 gallon DT and 30 gallon sump. DT currently has 5 small fish, shrimp, CuC and a three small corals. I've cleaned the skimmer and impellar to make sure it's making bubbles. I've played with the tube to adjust the water height. It makes bubbles but there is no scum to make them stick. Guess I just have clean water??

You are probably catching a lot of the stuff in your filter, especially if you are using a felt one, so there isn't much for it to catch. You could also not have enough air in your skimmer. Are the bubbles really small or really big? I personally just use mesh bags to pick up the big stuff. You should also change out your filter sock every three days or so to prevent buildup of stuff that can cause nitrates. Inspecting your filter sock before you dump it is also a good idea. I have found snails starfish etc in mine and return them to he tank if they are still living.

Every three days? Is this a typo?

I have a eshopps r-100 for my new build, and have not started researching on what to do with that bag.

The bubbles are very small. Every three days?? I took mine out after 2 months and it was clean. But then again, my tank is very new.

Maybe, I'll remove the bag for a while and see if the skimmer works differently.

I get about 3-4 days out of my felt filters (200 microns). I have about a dozen of them and toss them inside out into the washing machine with a bit of bleach to clean them. I haven't tried the mesh ones yet. I really don't have a large pod population and my drains are fairly well protected but I do peek into the socks just incase.

The level of the bubbles in the skimmer should be right at the bottom of the neck going up to the collection cup.
