Using RO water and not RO/DI?
If I use RO water (Culligan-the drinking water kind) that does not have DI, what should I treat the water with prior to putting it in the tank. For a fish only tank with dry rock would I need a UV set up? If so, what's a good one for a 120 gallon tank.
Are RO/DI systems difficult to install. My tank is built into our stair case with a dedicated closet behind it. If I were to put an RO/DI unit in that closet where do I tap into for the water? If the kitchen sink then that's difficult as it's on a stand alone island so I couldn't get to it without cutting into the slab. Trying to see how involved it is in hooking this up or if I would need to get a plumber? Thanks. |

Difficulty depends on location.
I installed RODI yesterday in my furnace/utility room next to whole-house RO system, so I taped into that feed line. You need access to drain too. I got lucky, I have a floor drain in my furnace room. It took me about 10 minutes.

It's the drain that is the challenge. How close is it to the closest one. If you have both it's a simple process if you are a bit handy and know how to work compression fittings.

I can drain it outside. That's where I have the chiller plumbed to. However, my question is how to tap into a water source. I could go through the walls and into the laundry room.
Is there a way to set it up to once I find a way to tap into the water source I can have it automatically fill my 50 gallon holding container in my closet behind the tank? Can this be done easily or is it pretty involved? What's a good RO/DI unit to get for working with a 120 gallon aquarium? |
