Biggest Fear... Tank Failure/Flood... How about a 20,000 gallon flood.
A fellow reefer (IrishTang) posted this in my local forum and I thought I would share here...
I'm sure most of you are familiar with Bill Wann's 20,000 gallon residential reef tank. If not, just google it. Apparently yesterday a 6 inch pipe cracked and drained all but 18 inches of water!!! You can read what he says here and he posted some pictures too. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php...90&pnref=story Man, I would've probably had to of been hospitalized. I hope he can recover most of everything, including the ten years that was probably knocked off his life. I hope his corals make it until it gets refilled too, sounds like most of the fish are ok. |

I thought I read some people in his personal life were insulted and then a bunch of back and forth insults ensued on his build thread. Don't hold me to that. |

I hope with 18" of water left that the fish were ok. I never heard of this guy before. That tank is literally straight out of my dreams. Except for the maintenance! I hope we get more details about the accident. Why exactly did the pipe crack? I like to. Learn from these incidents. Reef keeping is difficult enough on its own, but then there are all these random happenings: leaks, disease, power outages, etc. Guess we'll never be safe from all of them, but I'm trying to protect myself from as many as possible.
Was also wondering why his Apex or whatever he has didn't warn him something was wrong.

Oh, and I'm sorry for asking why he was banned. I got to thinking maybe I could be banned for asking? I guess it's not appropriate? But I really wanted to know how such an unusual person who could have added so much to RC could have been banned. Warned, ok, but banned? That's sad.

And we complain about how long our RODI system takes to fill a 120g tank... check out his Facebook page... he's moving salt buckets in with a FORKLIFT..

Found out at 4am. It said he lost most all the coral and the fish were being kept alive in the 18" of water by the heat exchanger and sand filters. All the fish made it

even crazier to think that it still left him with approximately 2,600 gallons still in the tank! wild to hear about this.

I remember his build thread, hard to forget one like that. Really sucks to hear about the failure.
