help with skimmer!

Hello,

so I have a Eshopps PSK-100 skimmer. it has the siccee 200 pump.

However, I have had it running in a tub with 1.028 salinity water to try to get it broken in while I wait for the sump baffles to dry.

I am wondering why it has not even got closed to broke in yet, has been running over 24 hours. I have it wide open, where you can turn the gray tube to open and close it, I have it wide open.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

What is the water level supposed to be at for the skimmer to work properly?

My old Bubble Magus would overflow every single time if it was too low in the water.

I dont know what the water level is suppose to be, that is why I am asking for help. It definitely doesnt have any problems with overflow as I can not even get the water, let alone the foam/bubbles to the collection cup

Are there any organic molecules for it to skim? If not, add some phyto. If the water is crystal clean, it will not break-in like you think. Add aquarium water, or a collection cup of skimmate from another tank. Or increase water level in tub.

Oh okay, it is like half old tank water and half brand new tank water?

Will it work better when I have it in the sump that is attached to the DT?

I really hope I do not have to raise the level of the water because it is only 9.5 inches in the sump.

okay well this has been in my sump for 2 days now in 9.5 inches of water, 55 DT and probably around 20 gallons in the sump.

It still looks the same in the pictures above, anyone have any suggestions?? I would like any opinions as I have the air wide open but it is still nowhere close to the collection cup

Lower the salinity to 1.025. Skimmers will produce more foam and overflow when it is too high. Break it in under the current concentration of your tank. That way when you turn it off and put it into your sump you will be close to the setting that you used when breaking it in.

When I am breaking in a new skimmer, I use the water from my previous water change.

I recently purchased a new eshopps, after 6 days, it's starting, just starting to break in. I contacted the company, the person I spoke with said they are designed to work best in 8- 9 inches of water.

I contacted eshopps yesterday, obviously they were not open so hopefully I will get a response tomorrow. I have it in my sump now and has been in my sump since tuesday.

They seem to take a long time to break in. You mentioned earlier that it is in 9 1/2 inches of water, try raising it so it is in 8 inches. I raised mine last night to 8 and I saw skimmate my morning.

Try turning the gray tube all the way in the opposite direction.

I figured the more water it was in the better, guess I was wrong. I am going to leave it where I have it for a couple more days to see if I hopefully get some skimmate

I'm glad you figured it out. A relief and realization of our fallacies all at the same time!
