Because my QT is in my basement - which is fairly chilly - I put 1" styrofoam insulation on the back, and sides. That's the only way I could get my heater to bring the tank up to temp.
I didn't want the poor fishies just looking at styrofoam, so I put a background on the 3 sides before I put the styrofoam on. They might be in there for awhile, they might as well have a view! I noticed last night that the formica counter top the tank is sitting on, looks like sand too!
