Alternative to superglue?

I'm trying to superglue a piece plastic to my glass lid.

Superglue works for a bit, but the bond doesn't seem strong enough to put up with the constant saltwater.

Is there something that works better than superglue for bonding plastic to glass that is continually exposed to saltwater?

AFAIK as a chemist there really isn't anything that great to bond plastics to glass in that manner, sorry. There may be something out there, but I've never ran across it...maybe someone else here has and will chime in.

Depends also on what kind of plastic it is. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to use two different glues - coat each surface with one, then bond the two glue surfaces which will probably be much more surface-active.

Yep. If it's acrylic, 2-part epoxy will form a nice, permanent bond to glass. Polycarbonate also works. If your piece of plastic is polyethylene or polypropylene, you're pretty much out of luck. There are some special formulations of epoxy and cyanoacrylate (superglue) that claim to bond polyethylene and polypropylene, but I've never had much luck with them.

silicone will keep it stuck but won't provide any structural type strength. It works for internal overflow boxes and to silicone acrylic baffles in a sump.

What exactly are you trying to use the plastic piece for?

Gorilla Glue. The Gel version.

I glued pvc fitting threads into a pump last night. left to dry for about 3 hours. strong hold, no leaks.

I used the same Gel glue to seal a hold i made in my DIY skimmer where i sent the air tubing in. solid seal. I even did it half under water =D

I'm trying to bond 3M duallock to my lid. It's very similar to velcro, except about 4x stronger and 100% acrylic.

I have gorilla glue in gel form, it didn't help.

I need something that is strong, so that the duallock will keep my lid locked, unless I open it.

This is to keep a pet octopus in, and if I can get the duallock to stick to the glass this would be my preferred solution.

So just to conclude, for gluing acrylic to glass there is basically no solution?
