Please help something growing on paly

These guys are almost eight months old and have been doing great. This one green paly near the top has something wrong not sure what's starting to cover it. When I touch it doesn't react tried scraping that crusty stuff off no luck. Was healthy last week. Looks like something grey is growing and covering it any advice would be appreciated.

Tried pulling it off with tweezers and in seconds it nearly covered the entire paly. Seems like the discoloration is part of the paly not sure what to think now? Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Don't think so tried peeling whatever it is off and seems to be part of the paly.

I can't tell from your photo but I have a rock with mixed Paly and Zoa which has sponge on it. It was over growing the polyps. So during a water change I put my siphon right over it and Cha ching! Turns out palies are attached much more firmly than sponge. Didn't get it all but got a bunch!

if your talking about that object growing around the top 2 polyps, that looks like a sponge. the polyp that the red arrows are pointing to looks like he is stressed because of the sponge, but for the polyp itself I see nothing wrong besides stress.

Are you saying stressed polyps secrete a hard dark coating over the disk?

Whatever happened after all this time its health has rejuvenated and has started to open up again is very strange.
