Sand Depth for Wrasses
I am curious on the concepts driving sand depth in the DT and how they fit in with keeping Wrasses who sleep in the sand.
Most everything I have read recommends either 1" or 3-6" of sand. I assume I would need 3" for the Wrasse, but want to know the pros/cons of a deeper bed. Thanks!

what I have noticed is there is a lot of debate and controversy over Deep Sand Beds.
I personally have no experience, but I think there really isnt a difference in either.. isnt the entire ocean a massive Deep SAnd BEd? lol

There is actually a huge difference between the two. For the OP's purposes an inch or two would be plenty.

I have approximately 2-3" of sand in my display (DSB is in a separate tank, thus 'R') to accommodate my wrasses. Seemed fine initially, though as my dusky wrasse is now pushing 6 inches, maybe not enough

I have anywhere from 1 in to 3 inch in any given spot. Once a wrasse finds where he is comfortable sleeping that will be pretty much his bed. I know where mines sleep and he's in about a 2 in deep spot.

My six line sleeps in the same place, the sand goes from 1 to 3 inches depending on how much sand my powerheads have moved.

I have a 3-4" sand bed and a 5" Red Coris Wrasse. He sleeps in the front corner and will move more sand if he feels like it. Right now that corner has about 5" depth there.
I don't worry about it since it gets stirred up daily.

Thank you for the thread gr93pony! This was exactly some of the information I was looking for aside from what depth wrasses like.
