Wave maker suggestions?

Hey all,

I have begun to take a keen interest in a wave maker for my 90 gallon bow front. I have seen videos of the back forth sway motion and would love to replicate that on my reef tank.

I was hoping to hear some input on some types of wave makers. I have seen several on Amazon that are quite affordable, just unsure if they would do the trick for me. I currently have 2 plain old circulation fan pumps.

Any insight or direction would be awesome

Being that you have a bow front, the limitation of the way Vortech pumps mount may present a problem. You may be very limited in their placement. Pumps that allow angle adjustment within the tank may work out better for your application.

I thought about that quite a bit also. I heard with bow fronts may work unfavorably with some wave pumps. You happen to know any pumps that may work well for me.l?

The jebao rw series of pumps are really good! A single pump can create a standing wave. I run two rw-8 in a 120. The different modes allow for some really good flow and particle suspension.

VorTech's work extremely well with bow fronts. The gentle curve helps move the water uniformly across the tank and there are very few dead spots.

Jebao RW is good product and price too. But it is up to your budgets.

I had 2 mp10's in my 72g bow front, and they did a great job. I upgraded to mp40's when I went up to a 90g. The curved glass is not an issue at all.

If anyone has any experience with this particular pump please let me know. I'm getting mixed reviews and I'm strongly considering getting this as an alternative. It's minimalistic and powerful,
Probably has more Power then I need. And a bit pricey as I'm sure I can get more for my money but love this concept.

I like the maxspect but I can't compare to anything other that the four big a$$ siccie voyager 3's I had in my tank. You can get a good sized wave with it.

Hey everyone, as an update, I ultimately decided to try the Gyre xf130. A bud of mine has it and it's doing wonders in his 75 gallon tank. Pushing water like its nobodies business. It's so minimalistic and the price is right around 250 after tax and what not.

I own a couple of the XF150s, as well as a number of others both mentioned and not in thread. As with all pumps, it would be a good idea to read the manual thoroughly before you put it in the aquarium. You can definitely get a good wave with it, but you can also get the same pulsing action of the water and livestock without a wave with some careful tuning. This also helps keep water in the aquarium and not on the floor, and the noise level down in the overflow.
The You might want to try dis-assembling it a few times to get the hangs of how the parts come apart and fit together *before* your first time cleaning. The manual suggest cleaning once a month - not a bad schedule, and one that has played out pretty well so far for my use. A couple hours' soak in a vinegar solution and some scrubbing with an old toothbrush and you're back in business.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ray

Thanks bud, I actually just received them now, I love the damn thing. It really pushes the flow and I see all kinds of coming out of the old dead spots. I'm putting I'm turning on my old power heads and taking out xf130 to see kinks and kicks to it so I can get familiar with the unit.

Overall tho, so far I love the unit. Replaced 3 power heads and pushes more water and it's only dialed down to about 40%. I can't imagine what the xf150 could do lol.
