Sump help

I am rebuilding an old 110 tall reef tank. It is drilled with a 30 gallon sump. There are currently no dividers in the sump and it contains my skimmer, a filter sock, return pump, 2 heaters, and auto top off. I am trying to keep it as simple as possible, but a refugium has me intrigued (I have no experience with one). I like having the extra space for water changes and maintenance tho.. Is there a simple way to keep some chaeto in a diy stick on shower basket type box? Would I need another pump to make it spin? I guess I am just fishing for ideas now before it's too late. Also, what about keeping extra live rock/rubble in a plastic bin in the bottom for easy detrius removal instead of just in the bottom of the sump? Thank you for any thoughts or ideas.
