Cycle update
My 120 that I just dosed up to 2ppm ammonia just tested for 0ppm ammonia today. Nitrites are around 1ppm.
This is where I get confused. Some say, dose ammonia back up to 1ppm. Others say do not dose ammonia again until nitrites are at 0. So....do I dose ammonia each time it drops to 0? Or do I not dose and wait for nitrites to hit 0? |

Either or. I think if you dose while the nitrite is on the rise, the ammonia provides food for the bacteria that convert it to nitrites. Waiting until nitrites hit zero may prolong the experience but it will work the same I think. If the nitrites start going through the roof then you can start backing off on the ammonia dosing. Once they both start showing zero after 24 hours from dosing then you are good.

Personally I would wait until nitrites are zero, then dose some ammonia to 1-2 ppm. If both ammonia and nitrites are zero in 24 hours your good to go, if not wait until they are zero and repeat.
FWIW I keep seeing all these posts about sky high nitirites and folks keep adding ammonia everyday. what do they expect to happen. To each their own but I have cycled many takes the way I mentioned above without all the issues. Good luck.

That's cuz that is what the so called experts are telling us feed the bact. Or they die. What do I expect? I expect amm. Convert to nitrite Nitrite to nitrate water change to rid tank of nitrates.cuz from all my research that's how interpreted it but its not that simple.I never seen so much conflicting advice and info in my life as this hobby.other than maybe in medical field. Lol.

I used to work as a medical technician in the microbiology department. This beats the heck out of the medical field with conflicting advice.
