Maxspect gyre question

Hey guys,

I've been very pleased with my gyre so far on pulse mode, even though I cant get it up past 20% without ripping up my sand bed (16" deep tank).

So I went to try the alternating gyre mode to see if it will move more water without messing with my sand bed, but the reverse mode barely moves any water. I have the reverse mode cranked up to about 60% and still barely pushes water. Forward mode is set to 20% and is fine. I have A and B paddles on it as it says to do in the instructions for alternating gyre. Anybody have a similar experience?

I will try swapping out my paddles in a bit just to see if it fixes it.

Yep. I tried that mode and found it to be pretty much worthless. Backwards alone is pretty pathetic, and with the alternating mode you are only using basically half the gyre to move water backwards. I personally didn't like the flow I got in either direction with this mode.

I am having a hard time with mine as well...not really liking any of the flow patterns.

As mentioned, it is awesome in forward motion, backwards motion is little if anything. More like turbulance. I prefer to run mine with both paddles going the same direction. I may change one of mine out to have the alternating gyre where half goes one way and then reverses. For right now, pulse will give you a nice wave effect.

Current Tank Info: 40IM Fusion, 40lbs of rock, and 20lbs of sand. Just a few fish and corals....for now.

I experimented with switching the paddles to AA and setting it to alternating gyre so half one go one way and the other half, the opposite. Seemed kinda silly to me and didn't strike me as an improvement over the AB configuration in pulse/constant. So I reverted the paddles. 20% AB pulse it is.

Still searching for that perfect solution to keep my sandbed from blowing all over the place. I even have Caribsea sea floor special lol

I'm running mine full throttle but vertically rather than horizontally. Shouldn't stir up the sand bed that way but push the flow across the perimeter of the tank. Love it, give it a try. Andrew
