Which sump to go with?
Which sump would you recommend for a 120g FOWLR:
Aqueon Proflex model 4 ($329) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUFxNprhGzg or Eshopps new 3rd generation RS-300 ($329) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAc6pxWUn-E |

I would build my own. A 40B with glass baffles siliconed in would work a lot better and have what you want and where you want it. Just my two cents. Not to mention, it's a lot bigger volume.

^+1. Get a 40 breeder for $1 gallon and some glass and silicone, about $50 bucks to build a sump the way you want it. My sump came with my tank and it works but next time I'll build my own.

Sorry, should have stated this earlier. Can't do a 40g breeder. Max width I have is 14.5". I would have to build one out of acrylic which would cost no less than $400 for materials and tools.

Is it tall enough for a 55g?
All of those compartments and trays make it tough to keep the sump clean, and you will be tempted to fill them with unecessary flosses and media. Kinda depends what you want to put in there, for me the best sump is just a place for the skimmer or filter sock, and heaters. But its easier to change your mind later if you just stuck some baffles in an old tank than if you buy one of these custom jobbers. Either way, the less clutter the better, imo.

^^^^^^^ Cstrickland helped me design my sump. I'm in the same boat as you, except I have a 75 and I'm not 100% sure I can fit a 55 gal underneath my stand which is 49". I can't fit a 40B. I'm probably going to go with the 55, and ime you should too.
