June 2015-Reefer of the Month (ROTM)---SPotter!!

June 2015 SPotter:

What an amazing honor!!!!

My fascination with fish started when I was 7 and asked my parents for a pet. My dad said I could get a pet as long as it didn't have to be walked, live in a cage with a wheel, chirp all night or slither out of a tank...so that left fish. I set up my first saltwater tank at 15 when under gravel filters were still popular and you were fancy if you had a UV Sterilizer. I got a part time job after school in a reef shop so I could save money for a car but that only led to setting up several tanks and no car.

Life started throwing me curve balls in my early 20's so the tanks had to go and fast forward 20 years to 2010, I have a home and won't be moving around a lot so I told my wife I wanted to set up a tank. I found Reef Central and quickly realized that the hobby had changed a lot in 20 yrs. If it hadn't been for Reef Central and all of the great members I would have never been able to figure out what RODI meant, how to hook my Apex up to WIFI and countless other things that I have learned from the wealth of knowledge on here. There are so many things I love about reef keeping and now I love sharing my experiences with new hobbyists. I think back to all of the mistakes I made and still make and I want help others avoid the same ones.

I really appreciate this totally unexpected honor!!!

Description of RC ROTM:

In appreciation and honor of the members that regularly contribute to our discussion forums, we would like to acknowledge a Reefer each month that stands out as exceptional for their outstanding service to others. This person will be selected by the Reef Central Staff, based on their willingness to help others in response to questions, giving advice, and overall disposition. The honoree will be given the Reef Central ROTM tag, that will appear above their avatar and will follow them for one year after being awarded. This will not only demonstrate to others that you have been chosen as a trustworthy source of information, but also as a positive role model for others to emulate. Additionally, we are pleased to upgrade your membership to the premium level for one year.

We look forward to honoring one person, each month, by highlighting them here on Reef Central. This will include a recent photograph of yourself, or your avatar if you prefer not to show your actual face, along with what you love about the hobby of reef keeping and why you have chosen Reef Central to be your home. Each month the face and paragraph of the ROTM will change, but you can forever hold the honor of knowing that you were one of the chosen few to have earned this title and our respect as a member in great standing.

Best Regards,

The RC Staff
