Aquamaxx ConeS Q Series
Hey guys! The new ConeS Q series just came out and I thought I'd make a thread for people to discuss. I picked it up last week and it's been running great, took a few days to start producing foam for me but now it's running well. It is not as quiet as the ConeS Co-1, you can hear a slight hum and also the bubbles are quite noticeable unlike the CO-1 which is prety much completely silent. I currently have it in 7 inches depth and it is pulling out way more gunk than my SWC 160 was, and I don't think it's even fully broken in yet. Anybody else get a chance to pick this up?

I am wondering how is it compared to the CO-2 in term of performance and noise, if an upgrade is worth it.

Yes please keep me posted on this. My tank is also in my bedroom and I'm also very sensitive to sound. Any experience you could share would be great because I'm strongly considering the CO-1 for my skimmer upgrade.

There is a very slight hum on mine, but very slight, certainly nothing that would keep me from keeping mine or getting one and like the others I am also very sensitive to noise.
The only thing I can find that a semi negative is I wish the cup was bigger, but small issue. When you put that bubble plate in it's a little awkward for my bulky hands, and I'm sure reef slime won't make it any better later, but oh well, won't have to deal w/ that often. I was already looking at that black screw in the center and thinking it would be nice if it had a little pin type handle. It is nice how it breaks down for maintenance. Very small footprint, if you placed it diagonally it could fit a real small chamber.

Now that its night time and all the ambient noise from the daytime has quieted down I did another sound comparison between the CO-1 and the Q2, and I have to say there is absolutely no comparison. The CO1 is DEAD silent, way quieter than the hum the 1260 producers to a point that I cannot hear anything from my tank except for the 1260. The Q2 has a very noticeable air draw sound as well as bubbling sound, and also the gurgle every few seconds from too much air draw or something. Time will tell if the Q2 quiets down, but I don't see what could happen that would make it. That being said the Q2 is a much more powerful and larger skimmer so it isn't exactly a fair comparison. I was going to sell off the CO1 but I think I will keep it permanently as a nighttime skimmer and use the Q2 during the day.

I installed my Q2 yesterday on my Red Sea Reefer 450 tank(92gal). The skimmer is dead silent. My tank is only 1 week old and still going through a cycle. I am impressed by the quality and ease to set up. Too early for any skim. I had to make a stand for the skimmer so it would sit in 8" of water.

Another cool trick for raising skimmer is a glass block, clean and invisible.

xdestry....I have my tank in the living room. I do not hear any bubbling or air suction. Very quiet.
africangrey...Yes, fresh water top off. The system comes with a auto top off storage tank and sump and stand. The storage tank sits on top of the drain side of the sump and holds about 3 gal of r/o water and works off a float switch with gravity. Works very well. For my skimmer stand I cut some pvc pipes for legs and glued to a piece of plexiglass which the skimmer sits on. The skimmer is in 7" of water. 2nd day and only foam. Many different opinions on running a skimmer while cycling. I feel it does not delay the cycle and I am able to break the skimmer in.

So I'm not really understanding the point to the air draw area design, why is there the small see through part with the extra air intake? I took that part off and it doesn't seem to affect anything at all, are you supposed to be able to control the amount of air drawn in by turning the water droplet shape dial on top?
It's only been a week or so but I am so far disappointed with the amount of skimmate being produced, hopefully the skimmer is still in the break in phase and will start producing a lot more, but as of now it is nowhere near the amount my SWC 160 was producing.

I would have thought the Q2 too big for a 100g. I've got a 120g and was debating the Q2 but went with the C01. My thoughts behind that are it's rated for up to 240g and my SRO 2000, which CoralVue is now telling me is too big for my 120, is rated up to 200g.

My tank has been running now for 2 weeks. My Q2 has been running for a week. My cycle is done, I have 4 fish and a few corals. My skimmer has started to skim. I need to adjust it some more to eliminate the wet skim.

I would say a 75 gallon medium and a 90 lightly loaded. I ma sure there are people who are running them on a 120 but that is really pushing it.
