UV sterilizer, what are the benefits?

I just purchased a canister filter that has a UV sterilizer and was wondering how to use it and what exactly you can use it for.

I've used one a couple times to get rid of a bacterial bloom.... Works wonders for that for me. I take it out after its gone.

Had a BAD bacterial bloom in new 125 , Aquatop canister w uv had it GONE in less than 24 hrs, CLEAR AS YOU CAN see , worth the cost IMO.
