closed loop ratio intake to return

I can't for the life of me find the answer to this question, when running a closed loop what is the ratio of intake to return? for example does a 1 inch intake bulkhead only supply a 1 inch return or can that one inch intake handle two separate 1 inch returns, etc... is there a ratio or a formula? or do i just match evenly. I currently have 6 3/4 schedule 80 bulkheads in the bottom of my tank and don't know how many should be intakes and how many should be returns, running about 2700 gph. please advise, thanks.

you can Usually At least double the size of the output from the intake. Some pumps recommend you do this.. I know Danner MAG Drive pumps with a 1 inch intake Require a 1 1/2 to 2 inch on the output side if you are going more then a few feet head height. I would say you can do several of them i would put valves in each return to the tank so you can adjust the flow. This is how i have my Return pump setup..
not a scientific answer but its best i have from experience.

hey its definitely a start! I purchased a waveline 10000ii but I'm a ways from setting it up. so with 6 holes I should be safe with two intake and four return holes.

is there any harm in stepping up the pvc underneath the bulkhead (3/4) to 1" to the pump and from the pump?
