Eating At Corals - Help Request
The bases of two my corals - a bubble and an acan - are deteriorating. I have some pics attached (not the best pics). At first, I noticed it on the acan and thought it was going to split. However, the base keeps disintegrating. I then noticed it on a bubble, which is close by. It is happening on two these two corals only, which are in the same corner of my tank. Thoughts/observations would be appreciated.

Just checked again and anything with a stoney base like my acans are suffering the same thing. The last pick shows an acan that seems to just picked this up.

I would give them a dip in revive or iodine, possible brown jelly or fungal infection

thx - but i'm not sure if it is a brown jelly/fungal issue. the stoney base is literally disintegrating. There is only one coral that has any sign of discoloration. Could it be just a calcium issue? I just noticed my calcium is like 270 - i just noticed that one of my dosing pumps is dosing at a much slower pace than before.

What do you have for livestock? I'd sit down and have a stern talk with any peppermint shrimp, dwarf angels or larger tangs.

270 is critically low. This is playing a large role in the corals health.
Also, LPS should be fed at least once a week. This will aid in tissue growth |

AGreed. I'm in the process of bumping and will post most likely this evening. again, one of my BRS dosing pumps decided to start to work at a snail's pace. it isn't blocked or clogged, just dosing slower. I try to target feed a few times a week. a lot of times my cleaner shrimp steal it, however. |

Feed at night in the complete dark...my shrimp can't see in the dark, therefore they cant steal food. I also give them some food first so they are preoccupied.
I suggest using kalkwasser in an ATO once you have established good parameters. It will maintain your levels for longer periods, raise ph to 8.4, and help precipitate excess phosphate from your system. |
