Running 2 Gyre pumps?
Hello all, I recently purchased the 150 Gyre pump for my 150 gallon tall tank (basically a 120 but 6 inches taller) and love it. But I want more crashing, random flow for SPS, so I've ordered a 130 Gyre. I'm going to mount them across from each other, the 130 on the left and 150 on the right, point them at each other and start low to see where the sweet spot is.
Does anyone have experience in running 2 Maxspect gyre's together? I'm assuming the best setting will be pulse mode and somewhat similar timing on both controllers to get that crashing wave in the middle? Thoughts? |

I don't run 2 opposite each other but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I run 2 150s placed on opposite ends on an 8'x2'x2' tank. I tried alternating and pulse modes but with the stock controller the timers were different enough that slowing drifting towards synced and the to anti-sync and then back again. I then hooked up to my apex and the just alternated every half hour with an overlap of a few minutes to get a period of turbulence. Eventually I just turned on both on continuous at 70% and called it good. Between that and 2 mp-40s on the back wall I get plenty if flow and turbulence.
With the new contollers available though, if you have them, you should be able to set them to stay pulsing at the same time. Really I think it comes to experimenting. Try different modes and see what gets the flow you are looking for. |

I have 3 gyres in my tank, one in the middle that cascades over the SPS, and one on each side vertical in the back corners. They are all on different flow strengths and times which create very random periods of turbulence and calmer waters. The corals seem to love it.

I'm looking forward to the advanced controller, but I don't see them available yet. What I'd really like is a more natural wave profile to mimic high tide, low tide, storms, and low flow for night time modes, etc. When that comes out, I'll buy it and hopefully it has multiple pump compatibility.
For now, I'll just play with trial and error. |

I see. I did see that an advanced controller was coming in Dec from CoralVue though.
