12mm glass for 5x2x2 eurobrace tank, safe?
Thinking about buying one of those tanks sold by Scaquariums. 5x2x2, all panel 12mm glass, eurobraced. Is it safe enough? I do not want to worry about when it will explode when I look at it at home in the future.
Thanks. |

That is 1/2 inch glass which many use for around that size of tank since it has the eurobracing. If you wanted to go straight rimless then it is recommended that you either lower the height to around 22 inches with that footprint OR step up to thicker glass in the 3/4 inch range.
I had two other builders who were going to go 1/2" glass for my 48x24x22 tank projects when I was going for completly rimless look. Adding the eurobrace gives a lot of strength to these tanks so worry not. And to show how confident I am, I too am ordering the 150 today from SC

My previous tank was 5'x2'x2', eurobraced with a central brace, made with 10mm (approx 3/8") glass, I had it for 8 years before selling it on, I'd not worry at all about your tank being made in 1/2" glass.

Meh I write code and need to have it run for my analysis so I spend the downtime on here.
Last job I had minions which gave me more time to surf my motorcycle forums and such... Kind of miss that job in a while.

Thanks, guys. I think I am more confident now. Is 12mm non-tempered glass fine for the bottom?
