Diatom filter on APEX once a day?

Just picked up a diatom filter to polish up my DT once in awhile. If I set it up to run for a determined amount of time once a day through my APEX, would this have any negative effects? I thouht I could install it in my cabinet and run the intake/outtake up to the tank. My tank has seemed cloudy I think because i got a superfine white sand and my daimond goby is stirring it up. Would the sand clog the filter up?

I think it would be o.k. as to the sand don't know for sure. I guess if it clogged it up you could clean it out and use it again. The powder coats the bag anyway, so it may work for a while and clear the water some.

Diatom filters require closed circulation to pre-coat the filter bag before using. If you are just turning the power on and off, you're water is cloudy because all of the powder is going into your tank.
