Powerhead for cube

Anyone else find it difficult to generate proper flow in a cube?

I tried an RW-20 and an RW-15. Placed them all over the tank, but no matter what I did they blew sand like crazy; on level 1 !!

I have two rw4s positioned high on the rear corners firing to the front glass. Best flow yet for my 24" cube. You could use rw8s.

What power level do you have the RW-4 pumps at?
I'm thinking RW-8 might be too much since RW-15 was too much on level 1

gyre 130 on my 30x30x24. I run it at about half power. Should have got the 150 but it was originally on a 40B. I get full tank flow.

the jeabo knock-off isn't out yet but the maxpect is priced well IMHO

I use 2 MP 40's in my cube. 48/48/24. Why are on the back wall and I have them programmed via my apex to cycle through all modes at opposite times.

if you have very fine sand then its very hard to fine tune your flow. From what I learned in with my first reef tank I did not want to get some fine sand. I'm running a 30x30x18 cube and I have 2x RW-8 at 50% power on W1. Im also using CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand.

I went with Flamingo reef sand, no sand storms so far.

hmmmm both yours and mine are listed at 1-2mm grain size. I do point the flow up and let the gyre motion create flow in the rest of the tank.

My rw4 pumps run at about 30-40% day and I use the auto night setting for night flow. You gotta give them a cleaning bath every 4-8 weeks to clear calcification from the ceramic bearings or the will slow down.

You have the two in your 60g cube?

I have 2 MP10's in my 60 cube. They did fine until just recently. After 18 months of growth I was starting to get dead spots so I added a gyre 130 yesterday. The vortecs run on reef crest set at 100%, the gyre is running on constant flow at 30 percent.

Total max flow is estimated and 4360 gph approx. 73 x's tank volume.

Why did I add a gyre and not another MP10 you ask. The MP10's will not work on my 120 upgrade, the glass is to thick. I can use the gyre 130's on the new tank once I get it up and running. I bought 2 on the cyber Monday sale. The plan is both 130's to be the short axis flow and I will get 2 150's for the long axis flow.
