pureed BT anemone! HELP
Hey Reefers,
Has anybody had there anemone pureed in there tank? Had mine pureed this weekend and needless to say, all my fish of course died!! Yellow tang, diamond goby and my newly flame angel. Guess who the only survivor is? Yup, my maroon clown. Now it's time to get to work. This is my plan. I have already did a 30 % water change, cleaned my filters( which I will do daily) and I have turned up my protein skimmer to get out any crap out. I also put in a carbon media sock in to absorb the toxins. Great improvement from yesterday. Water was extremely cloudy( Like milk) and day two has cleared up nicely but still a little cloudy. I will be doing another water change in a couple of days. What do you all suggest as far as how often I should be doing water changes. I'm I on the right track as far as what I'm doing and how long before my tank will be safe again to add fish. Ammonia are at 0, Nitrites 0 and nitrates are 5PPM. Your help is appreciated. |

Bad conditions caused the die off. more so then you can blame the anemone
I would be doing 100% water change myself, you have other issues that all center around water quality |

pureed BT anemone! HELP
When you say puréed...do you mean it died and melted, or took a ride in a powerhead?
How big is your tank? I think you're doing the right things. I don't think a 100% water change is called for...anything that was going to die from this probably has. GAC, aggressive skimming, and a couple more 20-30% WC should clear it. Don't be impatient. Once you do a couple more WCs, give it a couple weeks to stabilize... BT anemone must of floated during the mid night hours and yes it got caught in my power head mincing it up. I do agree with not doing a 100 % water change. I think the carbon media should absorb a lot of toxins plus doing water changes should help. I'm just wondering how often should I change water and for long. as mentioned before, water parameters are on the money. My cleaner crew and corals except maybe for my finger leather are all ok. Also my peppermint shrimp and cleaner shrimp are also ok. I have a 30 gal Nano.
