Reef/blue spot jawfish temp

I am wanting to get a blue spotted jawfish for the 90 gallon I am setting up, I am aware that they prefer colder temperatures. I would also like to make this a reef tank, I have never kept corals before. I know people usually keep their reefs at 78/80, but I will need to keep the temp lower for the jawfish. I was planning on 75 or 76. On liveaquaria, most temps for corals say a suggested range of 72-78. I am wanting softies and lps, not wanting to venture into sps at this point. Would they do fine at a lower temp?

75-76 is just fine for a reef tank

Thanks *heath* .. I got it right that time! If I felt like going down to 73 for the jawfish, is that pushing it?

I would say yes...you want stability which should be easy to obtain no matter what temperature your aiming for.
I don't like my temperature to swing + or - more than 1 degree.
I think jaw will be fine at 75° no need to go colder.

Stability is more important than the actual number.

Of course, don't just completely blow off the numbers, but you've got a little fudge room available.

I've noticed my lps are much happier since I let the temp come down to 76-78. I was shooting for 80-82 before and they weren't as puffy. I think probs the temp was spiking a little too high before my heater shut off, I'm a lazy calibrater.

Alright then, I will try not to panic about it haha. When I get it filled up and cycling in the next few weeks I will monitor the temp closely and see if I can keep it down without needing a chiller. I usually keep my house pretty warm, 73 ish, because I have a parrot and she gets really ****y when it gets closer to 70 and shakes alot. I am going to purchase brand new eheim heaters for this tank, since I'm aiming for a lower temp should I start with just one? Like a single 300 watt?

I really like the idea of a couple weak heaters over one strong one. You always hear that they die in the "on" mode and a 300 could cook your tank. Also, the eheim jäger is the cheapest heater I would buy (that's why I bought 2 for my 120 with a 30 sump). But if I was fancy, or careful on temps, I'd look at the titanium heaters from better manufacturers, like a Finnex.

No matter what, even I wouldn't skimp on a ranco controller. It's like a thermometer that attaches at the plug and goes in your tank, the heater plugs into it and if the water gets too hot it kills power to the heaters.

So get like a 150 and 100w? I've looked
Into ranco controllers before and have trouble figuring out which one is best for saltwater tanks.

Is this the heater you are talking about? Because the price difference is like 10 from the eheim and it comes with its own controller.
