Just ordered the Theiling Rollermat

Saw these around and now that BRS is selling them thought I would give it a shot. Haven't posted in awhile since my GFO install. Tank has been doing great....just wanted to make sock cleaning alittle easier. Will post install pics when it arrives

I like it a lot! Please keep us posted about everything involved in this product. Quality build, packaging, how sturdy is the case, how hard to install and after all that, how well does it work? I'd like to see a filter sock collect the output to see how much 'stuff' gets past the mat... if anything does.

I would love to see this in action as well. The one question I had was will it mess with the ATO at all when it has to clog and the water rises in the RollerMat box then the return section of the sump will lower. I know it's a small volume of water but on smaller systems it may matter

Agreed this is a clever solution and love the idea - if only I could justify the cost! Good luck with it!

brs states the replacement fleece is 20g/m² filtration pore size... wonder how that translates to microns.

Would like to try one too. But it looks like the flow rate is 200-600gph: which may limit its application to smaller aquariums... but then in smaller aquariums, the water level fluctuation would have a bigger impact on the ATO and the salinity. Lastly, what happens at the end of the roll? I see the emergency overflow, but would the motor keep trying to turn and burn out or damage the gears?

I bought one on Black Friday but have not installed it yet. It's very well made, but it's also huge. I'm still thinking about how I want to install it. Not sure I want anything on my bean siphon, so I might do a separate pump (and the limit is 600 gph). Also need to figure out how I will mount it. It's big, good thing I have a basement sump. It's probably bigger than a 10g aquarium to give you some idea of its size...

Just an update. It shipped from BRS and I purchased the adapter kit. I questioned whether or not the adapters from metric to standard included a stub piece of metric pipe to connect to the bulkhead. After a phone call to BRS they informed me that the adapter kit comes with two bulkheads that replace the waterin line and the overflow line metric bulkheads. The center metric bulkhead from the wheel uses a glue on adapter that fits and glues right on the bulkhead. So no need to order or have metric pipe for stubs FYI. Can't wait for the unit to arrive. I'm interested in the water level comment. I know that even socks can clog and cause over flow ( extra water held in socks) within sumps which changes water level in sump ever so slightly.... I guess depending on the water level differential set inside the rollermat and also the volume of water it takes up in its chamber......It's something to keep in mind when setting up

Hey koi . I've been running one of these for a year. Love love love it. Couple of thing to look out for in my experience . Placement height . If it's in your sump get it as heigh out of the water as possible. The power outlet is also on the underside and very close to the water if not. It can also be used for larger tanks , mine is 1600liters and copes well no overflowing etc, if you put to much water through it will simply fill to the float switch and turn your Matt on permanently. I moved my float switch a little higher , nothing said you can, but nothing said you couldn't either. Ether way waters always clear, and an added bonus if something takes a trip to the sump it sits in the rollomat where I can take it out and put it back into the tank. I do have a thread where you can see it setup but I have no idea how to send a link , maybe you could find it ? Great purchase

Blue spot, thanks for the info from a user's perspective. That's always helpful, especially with new or uncommon products.

Have you ever put a filter sock at the outflow to see if it lets anything through that a sock might catch. I'm curious because I haven't found where the manufacturer states the micron size of the filter cloth.

Hi Ron , got to say I haven't , but 2 different pore sizes are available in the uk. I'll find out the sizes, one thing I have found though is I baught some cheaper alternative rolls ! Bad idea, if the roll is not exactly the right size then water can pass without fully filtering . It really does take everything out , another thing is it's perfect for Copepods. Hundreds sit in the water reservoirs , so much so that now and again I take the Matt out and release them into the sump. Downsides are , make sure you get the latest level motor and power connection . The new one connects the power cable directly into the plug, old one kept slipping. Second bad thing is the coraline build up, it would be great if one was available with blackout screening or something. Even so it's still a great addition to your setup and you literally only have to change the roll about every three months and I consider my tank fairly heavily stocked.

This is a really interesting filter. I wish there were a miniature hob version with integrated overflow. I'd buy one.

Great feed back. Thanks. I'm not sure I understand, "...make sure you get the latest level motor and power connection . The new one connects the power cable directly into the plug, old one kept slipping." What is slipping? Is it a drive belt? Just what kind of motor and drive system does it have? Is it AC or DC? Is it a drive belt, gears or direct drive?

The coraline comment seems very pertinent as well. I wonder if it could be painted (not a big fan of painted acrylic in saltwater) or covered in some way? Even just a light blocking shower curtain over it... or my wife could sew up a sunbrella material fitted cover! She has done them for our 11' Zodiac and BBQ grille.

Thanks again.
