Acro's attitude.
Hey all you experts any advise on acro. I had a piece that bleached in 24 hours a few months ago and was wondering if there is some type of chemistry i need to watch more closely. i keep my levels at zero by great reactors and water change schedule. but that sucker was ****ed. i have 2 biocubes which as of right now have stock lighting when the bulbs need to be changed i will be upgrading to either retrofit led kits from steves leds or the AI prime which i will put in the hood and keep the splash guard on it. ( so i will have to cut a whole in the top for the light to be halfway out for cooling)
would acro survive with stock or is it doomed form the start. |

So a few things:
Acros should survive under PCs, they'll just brown out, and probably won't grow very much. I recommend the RapidLED full-spectrum solderless retrofit kit if you want to put LEDs in your biocube. I've done it, as well as have a bunch of other reefers, and so far I haven't heard any complaints. Not only that, but I get excellent growth, coloration, and coverage with them. And if you ever want to try out new spectrum LEDs, it's very easy to swap them out one by one to customize your color as you see fit. Acros can do well in a 29g biocube, as I can attest to. Mine have been growing substantially, and have excellent coloration. But with small water volume, keeping track of water chemistry is important, and keeping your salinity very consistent is difficult and important. |
