Durso Standpipe Question

Ok here is some pictures of the standpipe that came with the tank i just bought. Question in every video or picture i see i know there is a hole on the top but mine have 3 on the side. Is this normal? Pics below

Ok so i'm all set to just set these up as is. How low do i set the standpipe in the overflow? how low below the waterline.

I set mine where the bottom of the intake was a half inch below the teeth of the overflow.

I have a question about the durso overflow too.
What is the best way to stop the splashing sound from the drain pipe?
I have an aquaone minireef 120 litre that I have just set up and the splashing is pretty loud......too loud!
Any ideas please?

You can create a "Herbie" style drain if you run the return over the back of the pump. Thats really the only option that will create silence. It also provides a safer system since it provides an emergency drain incase the main drain gets clogged.

I'm thinking of possibly doing the herbie style but have no clue where to start with my dual overflow 120. Do i put the drains in one overflow and the return in the other over flow. Do i have a herbie style in both overflows?

If someone can take the time to explain the piping for herbie in a dual overflow system would be great. Just a little confused.

I missed that it was a dual overflow. That makes it easier. You use one side for the drains and the other side for the return and just put a plug into the extra hole. One hole on the return is 6 inches under the overflow teeth. It will form a full siphon. The second drain sits right at the overflow teeth and acts as the emergency drain, should not have water flowing into it at all.

The return can then be matched to the drain amounts. Id imagine on a 120 the drains are larger than 1" but measure to make sure and that can help you determine flow rates and return pump needed.
