What do you feed you anemones?

Hello I am new to the hobby and would just like to know what you feed your anemone and how the growth rate and cost compare, thank you.

Healthy anemones do not need to eat anything. They get their food from the lights. There is a section here that is specific to Clowns and anemones. Questions and many threads specific to anemones can be asked and found there.

I was going to say light is all they need. While you can feed them, they dont need it. A well established tank with good light will work. They should move around to find the flow, light, and placement they want.

You can feed them small pieces of store bought seafood like salmon, shrimp, scallops just make sure there are no preservatives. You can also feed them mysis shrimp or frozen mix food like LRS or Rod's. I wouldn't feed them more than once or twice a week. They will also catch food that you're feeding to your fish as it floats around the tank. With anemones if you feed them a lot, they will grow bigger. So if you have say a small BTA just feed it every three days or so and it will grow faster. Watch it because BTA's can and will get HUGE, or they can split if you over feed them.

I feed them with a good light.
And they get whatever I feed the fish, mysis, LRS etc. They are not target fed, whatever flows their way is what they get.

Agree w/ others, other than if a nem is white/bleached then it needs small feedings like mysis to help bring back to health and regain zooxanthellae which it needs in order to process that light into energy.

Anemones, like corals, feed on the ammonium fish excrete from their gills removing this waste product before it can be used by algae or broken down into nitrates by nitrifying bacteria.

Mine gets a Mysis shrimp about twice a week. I have also read where they do not need to be feed and use the light to basically grow there own food within there body. Mine however gobbles up the shrimp and has yet to spit it out.
