max spacing of LEDs

I'm trying to figure out lighting for my 3'x3'x27" and my newest idea is running a A360WE kessil in the center and running a custom single strip of LEDs around the edges in a square. I like this idea since i like the full ramp up and down and i'm hoping this will remove shadows and give me some good shimmer.

what i need to figure out now is how far I can get away with spacing LEDs. and whether it would be better to go with the 3 LED stars or do closer together single LEDs.

any advice? am i missing anything major/minor?
