Seachem Matrix
Since we don't have Siporax readily available in Australia market, I'm thinking of getting Seachem Matrix 1 L for my 55g tank DSB (40 ppm constant nitrate).
I tend to double dose it as I don't foresee any negative effect in having more. I don't intend to use it in a reactor nor Canister filter due to size limitation. The question is: can I just drop in the Seachem Matrix (in media bag) into overflow area in the sump? This is the highest flow area. Do you see the proposed solution work? I guess the whole intention is to eventually replace the live rocks inside 1 of the chambers in the sump with this Matrix media, but in order to do so, I will need to seed them first. |

I have a mesh bag with 1L of Matrix in the drain chamber of my sump, no idea if it does anything or not, but I got it for free and tossed it in.

If I keep dosing carbon/vinegar/sugar/vodka (nopox, in my case) ... eventually I'll get to that level where the anaerobic bacteria able to fight those No3 level and convert that to Nitrogen gas, right? hence I guess my original post intended to get more porous surface to help finding more homes for those anaerobic bacteria and they should multiply when continuous dosing of carbon. yes or no? even if I do heavy feeding, no maintenance to DSB ... as long as I've reach to that level of carbon dosing where I have sufficient anaerobic bacteria populating my tank fighting the No3. |
