Filter wool and skimming

Hi all,

Wonder if I can get your experience on something please.

I recently started a reef tank and purchased a fluval m90.

The ps1 skimmer is quite loud so I read that some have moved to the second chamber which I'm looking at trying.

However, at present I have filter wool in there.

Do you filter before skim or is there a better or more efficient way?

I'm guessing if filter is in the first chamber, I'd need to change it more frequently rather than skimmate collector?

Thanks for the advice.

Most systems have filter socks before the skimmer.
