Do I need a skimmer to get started cycling??
I'm just getting started and needed to know if I need a skimmer to go ahead and start cycling? I purchased an Innovative Marine Nuvo 40, 2 Jager 100w heaters, 2 Tunze power heads , Kessil 360WE Tuna, and a BRS RODI...I want to go ahead and start the live rock/sand process...Is there anything else I need to go ahead and start?

Welcome to the forum.
No you do not need a skimmer to get the cycle going. Be aware that it may take a few days to a week or so to break in a skimmer. It also may take a few days to get one tuned in as well depending on the skimmer. Good luck Forgot to mention there is a sticky at the top of the forum, look for the red arrow, called setting up. It is a wealth of information.

+1 on not needing a skimmer atm... But I would start looking for one for your application, as they are needed for long term good tank conditions...

Yes..I'm planning on getting one but would like to go ahead and get everything rolling and cash a couple checks before getting one..every purchase in this startup is $200 😜...I'm still a little iffy on salt selection as of yet...I research the hell out of it but different opinions flow rampant ...hence my new account...any info and help is welcomed...

I been looking at reef crystals..Red Sea ..and HW...I just don't want to make the wrong choice..I'm going dry rock and can wait as long as needed...I'm trying to do it right and not fast ..I'm not concerned with time cuz I want everything to be right..I haven't bought rock or sand yet but have a good idea of what I want..I'm not trying to rush anything at all...I just want the best habitat..

I swapped to reef crystals before I started dosing for alkalinity and calcium. I should switch back to regular instant ocean and save myself a few bucks. IMO you really can't go wrong any of the name brand salts. I think it just really comes down to personal preference.
