Active Carbon

Hi
I have fowler tank and today I started to use active carbone (Carbonit P) in a dedicate reactor (Mini 70). The reactor suppose to work 24/7?

If you turn it off for any length of time you'll run the risk of developing hydrogen sulfide in the stagnant water, so I would run it 24/7. Can you adjust the flow in that reactor? Of so, I'd run it as slowly as you can to prevent as much movement of the media as possible to prevent it from grinding itself up, and creating fines that can excape into the water column...a potential cause of HLLE.

Thats why I put perlon inside the reactor. That way the carbon doesn't move at all. Ia that OK?

your picture is sideways, so that isn't helping, but it looks like you have about 1/2" of carbon and the rest is floss of some sort? I would ditch the floss - it will only collect gunk and cause problems. For my carbon I just plumbed it reverse flow so that the water goes down through it rather than up. That prevents it from grinding itself up.

Running a reverse flow through a GAC reactor is my preference as well, but I don't think you can run that particular reactor that way. Can you sandwich the media between two pieces of sponge, and run slow enough to keep the media/sponges from moving? Otherwise, it might be a good idea to place the GAC in a media bag, in a high flow area of the sump, and use the reactor for another purpose if/when the need arises, i.e. GFO, BP's, etc.
