Help with silencing PVC drain under tank...
So, I made a video to better explain my situation... I am basically wondering the easiest way I can quiet below my tank.
Check video for accurate description. ![]() Cheers!

I don't have a Duroso on my tank but had similar issues with noise. I ended up adding a gate valve just above the sump and slowly restricting the follow until I had a 100% siphon. Meaning the drain line is 100% full of water which eliminates any noise from the water falling through the PVC piping and elbows. My tank is completely silent now to the point that I can hear the slight buzzing from my return pump.

As BrokenSpoke mentioned, reduce the flow falling into the sump and it will reduce the noise. I had the same problem on a 120, put a valve on the return pump to reduce the flow, it worked like a champ.

You could swap out one of the returns and make one overflow a full siphon Herbie with emergency drain. Then use the other as the return and second siphon. The siphons need to be plumbed separately all the way to the sump using gate valves for precise control. As long as the siphon discharge is below the sump water line, it will be dead silent. On the tank in the pictures, any noise but a slight pump hum means something is not functioning properly.

This may work, but it's super risky unless you have a back up drain. I would NEVER recommend restricting any drain unless you have a back up.

I found a solution!!!!!!!!!
$8. Two bath towels from Dollar General. Wrapped around the drain pipe under the tank. Can't hear a thing. WHY DID I NOT DO THIS 6 MONTHS AGO!?!?!? I'm in love. I can now hear myself breathing in the office again. ![]()
