Overflow method?
Has or does anybody run the herbie method on one hole? I don't like the durso method so was considering this method 1-1/2" down pipe with a 3/4 inside pipe for second over flow. Will run a gate valve to control the water so it will trickle in the 3/4 pipe for a backup. Only doing this because my tank only has one hole drilled in the bottom.

There are 4 options on overflows. Single standpipe, exapnding on that is the Durso setup. Improving on the durso you have the herbie method which uses 2 standpipes. And finally you have the definitive setup, the Bean animal which uses 3 standpipes. All 3 methods have an entire thread devoted to them.

This is a herbie method but done with one hole instead of two holes. Two pipes. Outer pipe will be the true siphon, the inside pipe will be the second trickle flow.

Also could have a float switch in main tank if both pipes were to clog it will turn the return pump off.

You need two holes for two drains to use the Herbie method. If you only have one hole you will need to drill a second hole for the second drain line. Yes you can have a float switch to shut off your return pump.

Ok so I'll call it the compact herbie method. Two pipes in one hole. The same concept as a herbie. Controllable and dead silent. Both pipes are ran separate ones just inside the other.

What are the dimensions of the 2 pipes? You should have at a minimum of one inch pipes for both drains depending on tank size. I can't picture how it would work, but if one was a 2 inch and the other a 1 inch, it might work.

Is a 1.5" outside with a 3/4 inside pipe. Even with a 3/4 pipe in the inside pipe I would have more than 900 gph at 14" of head hight on the 1.5 pipe. A 1.5" pipe gph is over 3000gph by itself at 14" head hight.
