Waveline dc2500h - can't get it back together

I just got a dc2500h DC pump. It was making a loud noises so I opened it up and all looked fine however I can't get it back together again. Is there supposed to be this lip on the front inside of the pump head?

It seems like it's rubbing against it making noise and it won't compress enough to twist the top back on

All fixed. Was the o ring causing the issue
