vertical sump?
I have a tank that is tall and narrow and the stand has a very narrow cabinet. I would really like to run a sump on the tank but the space is super limited. I was thinking of building a vertical sump with the a top and bottom chamber. top chamber would be overflow and skimmer and bottom would be for my return pump. Do you think this would work? I tried googling some stuff but got no results. Maybe there is a reason? Any input is appreciated!

how large is the tank and what are the dimensions of the stand?
one thing I would consider, would be to put a shelf inside the stand and do two separate smaller tanks, drilled and plumb'd to each other. Doing a vertical tank itself with a dividing wall for separate chambers, depending on the size, would scare me from a failure potential. with two separate smaller tanks, you could drain into the top, have it overflow to a lower tank and return from the lower.
