Sure, lol.. I have a 90 now with a tek 6 bulb fixture. Upgrading to a 120rr, thinking about going led..
Still might keep the t5 fixture but worried about light spillage with hanging it up instead of in a canopy.

It really depends on your budget and how advanced or how much control you want the LED's to have. If you just want a basic LED then Chinese Black Box is an option, you could go with so many types. Do you want to control and ramp up the LED's to simulate sunrise, sunset, and moon phase? Another thing is what kind of tank you intend to run? Types of Corals..etc. There is more to it than saying I just want LED's.
The Lighting forum has many great threads on many different types. Last edited by Ou8me2; 04/02/2016 at 02:10 AM. |

True. I mostly keep lps, zoas, very few sps. But I would like to be able to keep some easy sps in the future. Not looking for top of the line stuff. Needs to at least dimmable.

I have chinese black boxes, not a fan at all compared to T5 ATI. Growth is slower, more disco and just blah in comparison. I have seen people remove two bulbs from the ATI fixtures and put in some LED fixtures. One of my biggest complaints about the hobby right now is i cant buy a t5/led without paying over 1500 for 48". The previous posts are all correct, you got lots of options and kessils have a good track record. Mixed on the new AP700 though from what i read.

I couldn't decide myself, so I am going with both... kessil a360we x4 and a 4 bulb t5 fixture as well. These are going above my new 200 gallon deep dimension tank. I just saw a new video on brs last night that made me feel better about my final decision. You should check it out, I just Googled brs led with t5 video and it popped up. Very interesting video in which they ended up using led and t5 combo on their 52 weeks of reefing tank.

The basic Chinese LED's are Mars Aqua. They dim but only manually and if you want them to come on/off at certain times you will need to buy 2 timess to do that as they don't come with one. You could get 2 of the 165watt fixtures for under 200. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2PCS-MarsAqu...id=p5731.m3795 Here is the 42+page thread on the Mars Aqua. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2474870 Also there are these which are similar to the Mars Aqua but the are dimmable and offer WIFI which you can setup and control the settings of the light with a app on your phone. You can also setup lighting schedules to simulate the sunrise, sunset, and lunar cycles. You would need 2 of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/391394461859...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT There is also Ocean Revive Artic T247 They do have timers build into them but the price increases as with many led's who have more features. They are also a Sponsor here on RC and have a Forum below. You would need 2 of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-Ocean-Rev...sAAOSw9r1WBH77 There are other manufactures who make LED.. Kessil, Aqua Illumination Hyrda series, EcoTech Radions, Reefbreeders Photon. I'm sure I forgot a few. I listed the cheaper ones and from there prices go up a fair amount. I'd head over to the lighting forum and start reading. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=212 |
