Another thread about quiet sump pumps!

My wife has a desk near my tank and hates the humming that comes from many/most sump pumps.

I've had recent experience with 3 sump pumps:

- Jebao DCT-4000 - Almost perfect but not dependable
- Lifegard Quiet One 4000 - Too loud
- Eheim Compact+ 5000 - Too loud

I loved the Jebao, powerful, ultra quiet, and lasted less than a year before I wasn't able to get it to run anymore. Perfect but not dependable over the long run.

Switched to the Lifegard. Turned out to be a little under-powered and was pretty loud. No go.

Recently switched to the Eheim and it's powerful enough so far, but is too loud.

So, where to from here, Sicce / Tunze? Thoughts?

Many Thanks!

I just switched over from a mag drive to the ecotech vectra and all I can say is this thing is SILENT. So nice to have almost zero hum coming from that pump..now if only my skimmer wasn't so loud.

If you are looking at quiet w/out breaking the bank look at Tunze silence)on my present tank) sicce, or an original eheim, those eheim compacts are not very good.

I just purchased a Fluval SP4. . . once that arrives I'm sending back the Eheim Compact+ 5000. I'm gradually stepping up the price ladder. . . I might end up with a Red Dragon before this is all over.

I recommend DC pumps for quiet.

I've had quiet ones, mag drive 5, eheim 1260, eheim 1262, laguna maxflo 1500 and 1350 (askoll motor blocks). The quiet one and mag 5 were the loudest. The eheim 1260 and 1262 had an audible hum even with cabinet doors closed that were a bit disturbing in my family room. The askoll motor blocks were the quietest of the AC pumps, but still audible with the cabinet door closed.

Recently I got an ecotech vectra M1, and so far of the pumps listed, this is the quietest by a large margin. I can still hear it while running at 50% pump speed but it is a very faint noise. Youtube has some videos comparing different pumps - I especially liked the one that compared Waveline to Ecotech and Red Dragon.

I'd recommend making the purchase with a credit card that gives extended warranty - some pumps don't last long and the DC pumps are still relatively new and don't have a long history of reliability.

I debated a DC pump, but could not justify the price and the jebao pumps are not dependable as you said. After a few weeks of research I ultimately decided on the fluval sp4. I have one many pumps in my life and this is definitely the quietest pump I have ever owned. It is quieter than my flu all 404 canister filter. I am totally satisfied with this line of pumps. Only complaint is that is pretty large compared to its equivalents.

I have nothing but good things to say about Sicce pumps. From the list of pumps that you indicated you have tried I would think that the 3.0 or 4.0 Sicce pump would fit your need.

When I bought my wife's Crystaline tank I took back the Sicce because of noise, and traded for a Rio. I have a Rio on my tank here at work, and I hear the overflow not the pump. Now on my 180 my Vectra M1 is Perfectly Quiet!

Tried the Fluval SP4 and planning on sticking with that one, wife says it's OK and that's fine with me. Plus, seems like one hell of a pump, powerful enough to use with some other things if I get to them.

It's a tank man. Mine is super quiet. I can't even hear it.

Agreed Ecotech Vectra M1 is practically silent. Well worth the price. You have to look for water movement to check if it's on.

If you need quieter than the Eheim or a Tunze silence you will likely have to go with a DC pump. I have the Tunze and it's pretty darn quiet but if you want to, you can hear it.
