Who needs marine biologists?

I know you're all going to think this is stupid, but I'm reading some of the sticky posts on corals.... and I started thinking about the corals in the ocean. I recently saw a show on the corals bleaching in Australia and no one can figure out why - I'm thinking to myself geez, we should get a couple of the guys on this forum to tell these marine biologist why they are having the problems they are! Some of the levels of technicality that these tanks obviously require to keep fish and corals healthy, I would think a couple of these guys would figure out what the problem is fairly quickly!

They are definitely aware of what's causing it. Unfortunately, there's not an easy solution as it's environmental with consistently hotter temperatures and warmer waters (Global warming.)

Acidification is also named as an issue. Atmospheric CO2 makes its way into the water and the pH drops.

The hobby does contribute knowledge, and some RC members are actively involved in marine biology. There are also efforts at mariculture (sea-farms) for endangered corals and re-seeding, as well as the establishment of artificial reefs.

I think even the most expert aquarist would confess themselves to be equally unsure as to the exact cause of coral bleaching in their tanks - even if, as with the professionals, the general range of causes are know. Keep in mind that just because somebody posts here on RC that they 'know' what causes what, does not make it scientific fact, it's still conjecture.

Just tell them to remove like a handful of plastic bottles and trash bags a week as to not shock the system.

Ammonia 0. No filters: lps tank. Alk and cal won't rise if mg is low. Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny,royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%.
