PH Problems...

Good morning,

I have the aquarium running since 10 months.

I was never able to rise the PH above 7.8 and dkh 7.

I have all the windows opened, there is a good movement on the water surface, calcium & magnesium are on the range...

I started using Elos salt and when I mix it with airstone for 12 hours; its ph is around 8.1-8.3 but does not help that much with the ph of the tank after a day.

I am not running any calcium reactor.

I tried buffer but the effect goes away in a day.

I am using salifert &red sea kit.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

What do you have in the tank? Stoney corals? Are you dosing for Alk,Ca,Mg? Dosing or adding anything other supplements?

Yes I have a zebrosome, japonicus, klarkii and 6 line wrasse for now. I feed 3 times a day. But I had the same problem without the fish as well.

I do not have any stony coral. I have Rhodactis indosinensis, button polyps, galaxia etc. I dose ca / mg whenever necessary.

Have you checked hydrometer against another for accuracy?

You only dose Ca and Mg but not Alk? How else would you keep Alk up? Consumption of Ca is almost always in ratio with Alk consumption. If you are dosing Ca to keep your levels then you almost certainly have to dose Alk as evidenced by your low Alk levels.

Why do you dose Ca and Mg but not Alk?

Start dosing alk.. get it up..keep it up and watch the PH problem go away..
I'd try getting it to 9 slowly and see how that does..
