1st attempt at TTM. Advice?
Hey everyone so I got my first fish today. Beautiful Firefish!
My TTM tank 1 consists of. 1x 150w heater. 1x 240gph powerhead. 1x bubbler with air stone. 60w lamp. Is this too much flow for him? Please see video and give me and advice. I will be purchasing 2 HOB filters tomorrow as the ones I had leak and don't work https://youtu.be/8EX0-qXj0GU Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk |

Whether it is too much flow or not (which it probably is), the powerhead is not necessary and more difficult to sterilize in between transfers. The air stone and bubbler is more than enough to oxygenate and circulate the water, then just throw it away and replace with fresh tubing and a fresh air stone for the next tank.
Having a bright light on the tank will also not help with stress. If there is background light on in the room that is no problem, but I wouldn't put a light directly over the tank. Personally I painted my TTM tanks black on 3 sides and put them in a dimly lit area so the whole thing is like a cave for the fish. |

Yeah that sounds fine. I wouldn't worry too much about the lighting other than I wouldn't put one directly over the tank and I wouldn't put the tank in a high traffic area (which it sounds like yours isn't).

Good thinking with the screen for the firefish. Mine jumped out of the tank night 1 and died a carpety death. It seems like you are over-doing it for a quarantine tank though. What is the main tank you are putting it in?

and the less light the better, fish seem more secure when they think they are hidden.

You don't need hob filters since at the most they're only in there no more than 72 hours. And it's just something else to clean.

So just an update. Completed my 1st of 4 transfers today. All went well. Fed him before transfer. And After. He is eating well! Makes me happy to see him eat. I have been feeding very small amounts coming back and if it's all gone I will feed another small amount up to 4 times a day.

Its important to match your tank temps and salinity in each transfer.

Try to use the airstone with the finest bubbles. I purchased a bag of one hundred Lee's discard a stone air stone fine so I am sure not to cross contaminate between transfers. I also put in a dose of prime on day two just to make sure ammonia is not a problem.

Yeah I matched salinity and temp before putting water in he new tank. And I bought 10 air stones so I am not using the same ones over. I am also swapping out tubing. He is happy and eating today. I dosed a bit of prime yesterday. Should I leave it or dose again today?

Alright we successfully made it through TTM. Put it back into the clean 5g as I may do chemical treatment as well. Suggestions on preferred treatments and schedules? I should have done this during ttm but live and learn. I will place him in my 10g main QT for 1-2 weeks depending on how long treatment lasts.

I would start by dosing two rounds of prazi pro, and then do a formalin dip before you put into DT. When I do TTM, I usually start off with a formalin dip right out of their shipping bag. I just make sure to match my water to the SG they come in, float the bag for 15 mins, and then dump them in a tank with formalin for 50 mins. Then into their first tank they go. Then I usually dose prazi on the third and fifth tank transfer. After they make it through TTM I watch them in a quarantine tank for a month of observation before I add them to my display tank.

So you can let one be soaking in mild bleach solution (to kill any possible ICH)
while you use the other on the new tank..

Relax, nobody's lecturing. Just trying to make sure all the basis are covered.
Your first post said you had 1 150 watt heater.

That was my same thought. 1x? Must mean for each tank.
