Ro/salt water storage outside?

I have a question.. Can I store my ro water and pre mixed salt water for water changes outside. Will temperature affect the water? I live in South Florida and it gets fairly hot. Water will be stored in brute trash cans with power heads. They will not get direct sunlight for most of the day. Will this be problematic?

I don't think the actual storage of water is a problem outside as long as it is in a dark container and out of direct sunlight. You would want to secure it as it would be a potential hazard for small children. The bigger issue that comes to mind is now you have to work with hot water and cool it down before you can do anything with it.

I believe d2mini is running his mixing station outside on his deck using a small storage shed. Check out his new build.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. Sonyardo. Any ideas on how to cool it before using it. I don't think for normal top offs it would be a problem but for 15% w/c might be. Only idea I had was do it at night.

If the temp does climb that high I doubt the water will cool off much on a normal summer night - unless the weather is not very humid and you leave the top open to allow evaporative affect to cool it off. But then you'll be dealing with swinging salinity - and summertime in FL most likely wont have low enough humidity anyway.

Mine is in my garage in thick black containers in Georgia - my water temp in them never climbs above 80.

With all this new info. I'm thinking about just making the water on the same day I'm going to do the water change. It's a 57 gallon tank and will probably only be doing 10-20g water changes.

Temperature is the main concern. I have my water station in the garage. The water temp can get above 90F in the summer. Doing 15% water change raises my tank temp by as much as 2 degrees. Same problem in the winter, but a heater can be used to warm the storage water.

I am considering putting my storage/mixing station out in my garage. Pumping 15 gals inside the fish room the night before water change day to equalize summer temps. Pumping in T O water as needed which is about 10 gals.

I have my storage/mixing setup in my garage. Summer water temps top 110 degrees. As long as I bring the Brute inside to cool for 24 hours everything seems to be going well.
In fact, I am finally having SPS success this summer for the first time since I started 3 years ago!

Seems like you would get dust, bugs & stuff in the water if you leave the lid off, but you want aeration during mixing.

If you have a pump moving water at anything close to a good rate, the fact that the lid is on the Brute really doesn't interfere with aeration. It's not like the lid is airtight!
