Sump and baffle height for skimmer
I bought a used sump and rough plumbed my return pump . My concern when I bought the sump the baffle by the bubble trap is seven inches . Which in my mind is low . This section in the sump is where the skimmer goes . The section is rather large ! But a low baffle height . I found that a super reef octoppuss 2000 will work . However wondering if I should add another baffle and give me more skimmer options and extra water capacity . The section off the filter socks is 11 inches high . Wondering what people's thoughts are ? Let me know if some extra pics of the sump I should upload . http://i.imgur.com/2B1afkB.jpg Also adding a link if my pics don't work ! Any help is appreciated as needed ! |

if the 7" water depth is good for the skimmer then don't worry. If you need it higher just extend the baffle to what you need. Nothing that some glass/acrylic and some silicon won't fix.

However i searched alot to find a skimmer to fit at this height . I thought about extending the baffle height , but find will run into trouble with the bubble trap ! on the fence right now and want some opinion from some like yourself ! Thinking of leaving it however down the road when its running i might want to change it and it will be running ! Would splitting this section and installing a higher baffle so i can have a deeper skimmer section ? Then run a small refugium or other purpose I am sure im over analyzing this just don't want any regrets |

I think having a refugium is great, but a small one is not that good. limit space and then lights cause algae growth in skimmer. If you have the room do a separate small tank plumbed in and the bigger the better. Working on doing a 80-90 gal show refugium plumbed into my 240.

I wouldn't have thought of going that big for a refugium ! Sure it will be a cool look ! And great filtration ! Good luck on your adventure |
