frogspawn bacterial infection

Hi Everyone,

I recently fragged my frogspawn coral and because my lack of knowledge I did not dip my coral afterwards and I have been advised it will probably end up with an bacterial infection. I have ordered some lugol’s iodine solution and I will dip when I receive it (probably too late), but what signs should I be looking out for so i can be ready if it does show signs of disease.

At the moment both frags are looking great, fully extended, good colour, generally retracts at night but as soon as my light comes out it pops right out, so looking good, but I know that could change quickly, any advice would be welcome.

Thanks Ian

Actually it's brown stuff as in Brown Jelly Disease. Euphyllia are really susceptible to it.

Like mentioned above brown jelly infection is your main worry, you don't HAVE to dip after fragging but it does seem to help prevent it. Make sure the pieces you have are getting decent flow, just a tad bit more than you normally would for a euphyllia. That should help keep the bacteria from congregating and turning into full blown brown jelly infection.

Really? I thought all coral bacterial infections are rings that wipe out tissue. Can you give me an example of a nonring nonfleshwipeout bacterial infection?

Only coral aliment that I can think of that starts out with a ring is white band disease but that only affects the genus Acropora. Bacterial infections really don't start in a distinct shape for the most part

I've fragged many euphyllia successfully before and I didn't always dip after so it's not really a death sentence if you don't, it helps and should be common practice but it's not a rule.
