Tunze Osmolator Nano Pulsing
Hey everyone,
So I have been out of the aquarium game for about a year, but couldn't stay away, as I'm sure most of you feel also. However, upon setting up my tank, and testing all equipment, it seems that I received a faulty/defective Tunze Osmolator Nano 3152... The sensor seems to be working fine (pump kicks on when below sensor, stops pumping when it should), but whenever the pump kicks on, it pulses every 1-2 seconds instead of just pumping until complete... Any ideas? This was purchased brand new from MarineDepot and literally just arrived yesterday. Anything I should check / try before requesting a replacement?

Mine used to do that, I always attributed it to an air pocket being in the pump, I would wiggle it around to work the air pocket out. Only did it a few times, usually when the container got low enough to expose the pump.

I had the same thing on the nano. It was intermittent at first then constant. It was the controller box. Contact Roger at Tunze. He sent me a new one

The pump that comes with the Osmolator has problems purging air bubbles - I typically have to turn it upside down and jiggle mine a bit to get the air out if it has run dry. Is it actually starting and stopping as if you were flipping a switch on and off, or is it running faster/slower and/or making higher/lower pitched noises as it runs?
Also, what are the lights on the controller doing when it does this?

I did a little testing with my multimeter and may be on to something... Seems like the transformer on the power supply isn't working correctly. The manual states the pump assembly needs 12V max, but when testing the voltage coming out of the transformer I'm showing that it is only stepping down to a random 44V... Thoughts anyone? A bad transformer could definitely be causing issues. You could also try measuring the output voltage of the controller to see if it's consistent.
