skimmer for shallow sump
I am currently running an older euroreef skimmer on my 75g tank, with what i would think is medium bioload. my current skimmer has for some reason started leaking a lot of bubbles back into sump and tank and i can't seem to figure out why it is pushing more water volume than it has in the past. venturi intake is clean and the pump is only 6 or so months old. I have a gate valve on the outflow but if I slow it to keep as many bubbles from escaping, it raises the water level in the skimmer to high.
Anyway, I am tired of messing with it and toying with the idea of a new skimmer. My space in the sump is limited so I need one with a small footprint (approx 11 x 10 in space) and the height of water in my sump is around 6.5". Anyone have any suggestions on a real skimmer that will work well in water that depth? Have looked into the vertex skimmer line but the recommended water heights seem to be 7 to 9.5 in. thanks |

I just went through this with my skimmer , I have seven inches of water . I went with the regal line and got the DC model reef octopus . Personally for your setup I'd suggest super reef octopus line I posted a link above hopefully it works ! If not google is your friend to find the reef octopus line ! Another option is to get a recirculating skimmer as it doesn't care on height ,not sure if that's an option for you ! . I hope this helps , I spent hours looking at shallow skimmers |

Just filled my new 80 gal and went with a Reef Octopus Prime 150Int skimmer. It is currently sitting in 6-3/4" of water and is skimming very well. I'm even considering raising it just a tad so I'm certain your 6-1/2" will work out just fine. BTW, I am very pleased with how well the RO is working.

I'm very happy with my Lifereef skimmer.
http://www.lifereef.com/ You could call Jeff and tell him the available space.
