Pump Size for 180 gallon tank?

Looking for pump for 180 gallon tank. Using Herbie style drains.

Return setup simple, 1 inch returns over the back right into the tank, I have other pumps for other stuff I am using. Would a pump at 0 head 2000 GPH work or could do something that over kill around 3100 GPH for one of the waveline pumps? The height of the return is height of my stand, about 32 inches and the tank about 24 inches.

Thanks
Marc

A return pump for you tank really only needs to push 900-1800 GPH after losses..

Going with a DC pump will allow adjustable flow rates without having a dump T like AC pumps which are really nice..
Got a budget? Seen the new Ecotech Vectras?
Want external or submersible?

DC pump for sure, my neighbor has a brand new Waveline DC 12000, he never setup and is moving out west, and just wants to dump it. He willing to sell it to me for $50.00, I know it way more than I need, but for the price, would that work?

Thanks

Absolutely. I used a different manufacturers DC12000 on my 180g tank. It was 12,000lph, roughly 3000gph and I ran it at full speed. But I was running a number of things off a manifold including pushing water 30' out to a chiller in my backyard and then 30' back into the tank! You'll probably not have to use full speed. In fact, now I have a DCT15000 (3300gph) on a 125g tank and I run it at 2 out of 10 speeds... and I'm still running the outside chiller.

I brought the Simplicity for my 240 upgrade. I am only running it on about 50%.. very powerful and quiet.
