Reef Octopus Hob Bh100 Skimmer Overflowing!

Hey guys. I have cleaned this skimmer out almost every month (fully disassembled the unit, cleaning each and every piece) which seemed to fix this overflowing problem that I am having. In the pics attached you can see that the water level is very very high and it is slowly rising to the point that it will overflow and start draining the tank.

Does anyone know why it is overflowing because I recently cleaned (disassembled and flushed out) the unit a week ago and it already is getting to the point where it will overflow again. I would hate to have to disassemble it again as it is a pain in the butt so any help on this before it starts overflowing again would be AMAZING!

Thank You!

Sometimes when I clean mine too much it does this. It is a good skimmer. It may have to get slimmy inside again before it settles down. Also check the sponge that is inside the body. Sometimes if that gets a bit clogged up it will overflow as well so when I clean that sponge it works better.

My skimmer was overflowing after it had been running awhile(Same style, just bigger, the 2000H). There is a sponge in there that I had to remove, it was blocking flow. Once removed it was running fine (It's on the left side, towards the output).. It's resting on a grate at the bottom. I wouldn't have thought that was it, but it's been over a year since I pulled it out and it's never overflowed since. and skimmate/noise level didn't change, I'm not sure why it's in there.

hey eshark i think it is that sponge in there that is causing some problems. do you think the mechanical filtration that the sponge is doing is worth keeping it in there? thanks for your response by the way!

i turned the skimmer off and then back on again while making sure the air hose wasn't kinked and the water level went down! i think it has to do with a combination of the air hose being kinked as well as the sponge being clogged. thanks for your response! i've definitely narrowed the problem down

wow. yea i think this is the main cause of the issue. think the mechanical filtration that the sponge is doing is worth trying to keep it in there and clean or do you think we are fine by just going without it?

The sponge is not for mechanical filtration.. Its to attempt to mitigate any microbubbles that make their way out of the skimmer..

Mine was ditched day 1 due to the same problem (eshopps psk-75h skimmer)
