Algae ID (Pics)
Hi,
I wanted some help identifying this algae. The bottoms of my rocks are covered in a thick turf algae and some of these "tubes" are coming up out of them. http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/a...3/IMG_5353.jpg Bad? Ideas on removing beyond more water changes and GFO? |

Kind of looks like "maidens hair".. and from your other pics that might be some neomeris (its on that clam Teo)
(Sorry had to close your photobucket link cause half naked people started showing up and I'm at work..) nitrate/phosphate levels? water changes/avoiding overfeeding,etc... light spectrum,etc.. Algae isn't "bad" but it can be unsightly and grow over other things.. Its a part of nature.. I personally dislike when people (specifically new reef keepers) going right to GFO.. Its not the proper way most of the time but a "lazy" way out.. (for the most part.. Don't jump down my throat for that comment.. GFO can have its uses.. sort of) I've been doing this for YEARS and never used GFO and have had algae issues over the years.. ALL caused by lack of proper maintenance/rushing things or simply part of a new tank process..
